Sh.Mohd Iqrar Hussain, an eminent educationist with a passion for innovation and institutional development, is presently the Principal of Delhi Public School, New Delhi. Sh.Hussain started his career in 1974 in DPS R.K.Puram, New Delhi, and has over 38years of experience in teaching and administration. He is Founder Principal of two DPS Schools- namely DPS Bhilai and Fahaheel Al-Wataniye Indian Private School, Kuwait. Soon after taking over the reins of DPS Mathura Road in December 1998 , Sh.Hussain , with a zeal of an outstanding administrator brought about complete and radical changes not only in the facade of the main school edifice but also in the barren surroundings by creating a panoramic ,tranquil and soothing landscape and also diverse fields of activities like Promotion of Literacy, Academic Modernization, Social responsibilities, Environmental Education, Sports etc. and raised the school from the nadir to which it had sunk to its glory as of yore.
IBTIDA SHIKSHA KENDRA: Driven by the zeal to provide the right to education to all sections of the society as envisaged in our Constitution and seized with an urge to do his mite to the eradication of illiteracy from our country, Sh.Hussain established in DPS Mathura Road in 2001 a Shiksha Kendra to be known as Ibtida Shiksha Kendra. It aims at providing free value based education along with free books, stationery, transport, uniforms, and all other facilities available in the school, to the underprivileged children living in slums. At present there are students from Nursery to class X studying in the Ibtida Shiksha Kendra nearly half of whom are girls . They are taken to excursions, movies, picnics etc., completely free of charge and encouraged to take part in a host of co-curricular activities such as Yoga, games, swimming, arts and crafts etc. The outstanding students in academics and all-rounders are shifted to the main stream of DPS Mathura Road. 98 such students have so-far been shifted to the main stream. Those students who are not shifted to the main steam are provided with National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) facility to enable them to give board exam in X Class. This year 48 students have been enrolled with NIOS for the Secondary Exam.
ENVIROMENTAL EDUCATION: Sh.Hussain is responsible for creating a concern in the staff of DPS Mathura Road that the child of today grows up as a responsible environmentalist developing understanding, appreciation and shift in attitude towards natural world and its conservation. Sh.Hussain has been instrumental in the school undertaking many activities in this field. DPS Mathura Road became the pioneer school in Rain Water Harvesting and Water Conservation project. It also constructed a water conservation structure in the school campus for recharging ground water. The school participates in ‘River Yatra Project’ for cleaning Yamuna, Waste Management, Sewage Treatment Project, Tree Plantation etc. DPS Mathura Road has become a global school under Environment Society of Govt.of India and conducts various activities in an Inter and Intra-school level such as Anti-Cracker Campaigns, Khelo Holi Naturally, World Heritage Day, Wild Life Week, Environment Day, Earth Day, Forest Day, and Ozone Depletion Day and has won many awards. In a debate on ‘Environment and Education’ , conducted by the Third International Forum in Beijing, China, in which schools from many countries including the U.K. and the U.S.A. participated, DPS Mathura Road lifted the First Position Trophy. Sh.Hussain has also encouraged the students to take part in Senior Citizen Welfare, Jagriti Club on Consumer Awareness , HIV-AIDS Awareness , visiting Blind School, SOS Children’s Village , Old Age Homes etc. and render help, take part in Peace Projects ,Communal Harmony, Substance Abuse and Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme, ‘Mental Health’ and ‘Mind Vision’ programme etc. etc.
SPORTS: Constantly encouraged by Sh.Hussain, the children of DPS Mathura Road have taken part in many sporting events and outshone themselves in tennis, basketball, badminton, cricket, swimming and athletics and brought credit to the school.
AWARDS: Sh.Hussain is recipient of 50 awards’, prominent among them being:
National award for Teachers 2009 given by Govt.of India ;Best Principal Award by the Delhi Public School Society, 1994 ;Best Principal Award-2005 of Delhi State; World Human Rights Promotion Award-2003 & 2005;Distinguished Academician and Outstanding Administrator-2003; National Integration Award-2001 & 2002;Best Citizen of India Award-2001;Outstanding National Citizen Award-2000 by National Citizen’s Guild
PUBLICATIONS: Sh.Hussain has written and contributed to 6 Publications on Education. Sh.Hussain also holds membership of several prominent Professional bodies and societies.
